Did You Hear About the Morgans?

Really? This looks like absolute shit! I don't even want to spend time writing a legitimate review because anybody with half a brain can probably figure out that this is the worst piece of crap ever. I don't even want to attach a trailer to this, so instead here's a clip. Watch it in disgust as I did.

P.S. I want it to be perfectly clear that I do NOT like Sarah Palin. My disgust is in how bad the movie looks, not that they make fun of Sarah Palin. In fact, that could be the only redeeming quality about this "film."

Avatar

It is hard to know exactly what one should make of Avatar. The movie looks visually incredible, but it also looks more like a video game than a feature film (it even has a video game coming out simultaneously). The CGI is very well done, but too much of any good thing can be a bad thing. The ratio of real shots to CGI animation appears to be skewed in the CGI direction, which could be a little annoying to an audience. This, however, doesn't bother me as much as the fact that it is being released in 3-D. I might be the only one left, but I think 3-D is corny and ruins the artistic quality of films. There, I said it!!!!!
The story of Avatar is very interesting. At first, I thought that it was a real life adaptation of the Nickelodeon cartoon under the same title, then I thought it was about badass smurfs...I think it is about badass smurfs, but luckily there seems to be more to it than that. James Cameron seems to use an aspect in this film which I love to see done, which is, it is uncertain who the protagonists and antagonists are. At first it seems like the humans are the good guys for diplomatically trying to mine for resources on this planet; however, it alters eventually and seems like the indigenous creatures are the good guys trying to protect their planet. I've heard there is a love interest thrown in the mix as well...no comment.
After watching this trailer, I finally understood why the movie is called Avatar and I admit that it looks much better than I expected. Was it worth the $500 million it cost to make?...probably not, but it should still be entertaining to watch. Maybe not the next great breakthrough, but it should still be worth seeing.

The Princess and the Frog

The trailer for The Princess and the Frog starts off by bragging about how this movie will be in the tradition of Disney classics, but as far as I can see the only similarity is in the animation. For starters, the Disney classics were never released in 3-D. Also, those movies were horribly racist, so one can only hope that Disney has finally undergone some kind of sensitivity training before making a black princess. It seems like the race thing isn't done perfectly (the group of dancing sambos), but hopefully this doesn't affect kids prejudices. As far as the interracial relationship goes...why would anyone ever bring that up and complain about it? That's a whole different story though.
The actual movie looks really good. They adapt a fairy tale classic and make it fun and enjoyable for a broad audience. In that way, they are sticking to tradition and I expect this movie will be thoroughly enjoyed by a large number of people.

Invictus

I feel like Invictus is finally going to stop the slump of horrible movies in the theaters and start bringing in watchable movies again. It looks like a good sports movie, but has a heartwarming story about a country uniting after the end of the racist regime (apartheid). Matt Damon looks like he does a pretty bad job at first glance, but he probably can't bring down any performance by Morgan Freeman AND the movie is produced and directed by Clint Eastwood, which means it is probably pretty-pretty-pretty good.
My only concern about this movie at first glance is that it is a sports movie about a team that starts bad and ends up champions and overcomes their racial prejudices in the process in order to succeed. This doesn't sound like it should be a concern, but this is pretty much the plot of Remember the Titans. In short, Invictus looks like Remember the Titans except more epic since they are uniting a country and their black mentor is Morgan Freeman as the President as opposed to Denzel Washington as their coach. I have faith that Clint Eastwood can pull it off and make a great movie though and it will be interesting to see a movie about rugby for a change.

December 4, 2009 Quick Reviews

Once again, we are super busy and didn't have time to write real reviews. We apologize, but here is our quick opinion.

Armored

This looks absolutely horrible. There is no plot and even the action isn't impressive.

Brothers

This looks sooooo bad! I have heard from so many people that they are "SO EXCITED" about
this movie, but in reality it looks horribly overdone and ridiculous. Save yourself $10 and take
our word for it.

Everybody's Fine

I like the idea of the movie, but it doesn't look like they did a good job with it. This almost reminds
me of a 'Royal Tenenbaums' type story, except adapted for a more mainstream audience appeal.
It's too bad, but regardless...doesn't look any good.

Transylmania

I am losing faith in the movie industry more and more as they release this kind of garbage!
'Scary Movie' and 'Scary Movie 2'...ok fine, but once they did 3,4, and 5 and 'Date Movie' and
'Epic Movie' and 'Disaster Movie'...I am fed up. When will people stand up to this? Mark my
words, it will get to the point when they will make fun of them selves and call it 'Movie Movie.'
Needless to say, this looks awful. Please don't see it. Maybe if it doesn't do well they'll stop
making these pieces of shit!

November Quick Catch-up Reviews

Sorry we've missed the past couple weeks as far as releases go. Our plan is to get ahead of the releases, not behind; however, the past few weeks have been soooooo hectic. So here is our way of catching up so you know our opinion in a few words.

Precious

Ew, no! I couldn't even watch that girl for 2 hours without throwing up because the entire time I'd be thinking
about how she is a teenage mother...meaning somebody actually had sex with her...(shutter).

Ninja Assassin

Bad! Movie looks about as creative and interesting as the title.

Old Dogs

Absolutely terrible! Seriously...how could thanksgiving weekend be this bad?
Usually at least one good movie would come out.

New Moon

There's something about New Moon that I love even though I feel obligated to hate it. Although I'm a huge fan of Harry Potter and Star Wars, somehow vampires are still too far fetched for me...or perhaps it's the insane fandom that ruins it. But all prejudices aside, the trailer looks beautiful and I am intrigued.
New Moon seems to have more depth and sadness than its predecessor. Love stories are always better when there is pain involved or a third person (bring in the werewolf best friend!). And love stories are always better with action sequences, such as the last scene from the trailer...matrix anyone?
Based on the trailer I'd see it...just not on opening weekend when I have to sit next to a tween girl with a "Team Edward" shirt on.
