New Moon

There's something about New Moon that I love even though I feel obligated to hate it. Although I'm a huge fan of Harry Potter and Star Wars, somehow vampires are still too far fetched for me...or perhaps it's the insane fandom that ruins it. But all prejudices aside, the trailer looks beautiful and I am intrigued.
New Moon seems to have more depth and sadness than its predecessor. Love stories are always better when there is pain involved or a third person (bring in the werewolf best friend!). And love stories are always better with action sequences, such as the last scene from the trailer...matrix anyone?
Based on the trailer I'd see it...just not on opening weekend when I have to sit next to a tween girl with a "Team Edward" shirt on.

Planet 51

Planet 51 looks like a pretty decent CGI kids movie. It looks cute and fun for everyone, my only real criticism is that The Rock does the voice of the lead character, but that is more a criticism about Dwayne Johnson than the actual movie.
The plot is pretty straightforward, a US astronaut lands on an uncharted planet and discovers that it is inhabited by alien life-forms that are identical to humans in every way except their appearance. This plot actually seems like something that could have made a good Twilight Zone episode. Of course there are scientific problems and impossibilities with the script, but it is A KID'S MOVIE!!!! After viewing the trailer it is pretty obvious that he lands on the planet, gets stranded there, gets chased by the alien government, is helped out by a young alien boy, and he most likely ends up learning something valuable and heads home to share it with everyone. But even though we all know what will happen, it still could be fun to watch it anyway. Doesn't look as good as Up or Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, but still entertaining and fun for everyone.

The Blind Side

Our first review is The Blind Side for one very important reason...it looks like the worst movie ever! We have even developed a grading scale based on how awful this film looks (ex. on a scale of blind side to 5 how good is it?). There are so many awful aspects apparent in the trailer alone that I'm not even sure where to begin. I suppose we can start by pointing out the ridiculous accent that Sandra Bullock uses throughout the film...need I say more?
The trailer starts off saying this kid dropped out of school when he was 10, then shows him in elementary school, but somehow he ends up playing high school football. Not really sure how this is accomplished...either some kind of "Billy Madison" story happens, living with a rich family makes poor black kids geniuses, or it was edited poorly. Probably the latter, but I like to think the other possible options would be more entertaining than what actually happens in the film.
Normally I would reveal some positive aspects and "throw a dog a bone," but there really seems to be nothing redeeming about this movie at all! When watching the trailer, I couldn't help but notice how subtly racist it was. For one, all the black people shown are poor and uneducated while all the white people are extremely wealthy. Also, it seems like the only way all these poor minorities can become something is by being adopted by Sandra Bullock (maybe Angelina Jolie would've been better suited for this role?).
So, basically, this seems like your typical feel good based on a true story movie. Typical in every way, except that it somehow manages to be even worse than all the others. I would definitely not recommend anybody see this.
